DON'T HOLD THE DOOR OPEN

Don’t Hold the Door Open

Break the Hinges!

Felt so fortunate to be invited to Materia Abierta an independent program on theory, art, and technology based in Mexico City that focuses on the study of the social, political and philosophical. The inaugrural edition of Materia Abierta, Novo Pan Klub curated by Natalie Zuluaga and developed with the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico UNAM in coordination with Cultura UNAM, the programa de Arte, Ciencia y Tecnologias (ACT), and Catedra Max Aub held at Casa Universitaria del Libro(CASUL) and Casa del Lago Juan Jose Arreola. The faculty consisted of Yasnaya Elena Aguilar Gil, Ramon Amaro, Macarena Gomez Barris, Bethany Johns, Gean Moreno & Ernesto Oroza, Reza Negarestani and the wonderful Susana Vargas Cervantes who I met before through Jose Munoz when we were invited in 2008 to McGill University in Montreal. Ms. Cervantes gave a magnificent presentation called Pigmentocracy and Performativity: Intersections with Criminality and Visual Culture. Her talk featured her research on the Mexican Mujercitos and the tabloid publication Alarma which I remember use to be sold at every liquor store in South Central LA. I can’t wait to read Susana’s book The Little Old Lady Killer: The Sensationalized Crimes of Mexico’s First Female Serial Killer.

The Materia Abierta team included patrician Federico Perez Villoro who gave me a copy of his fetching  tome Printer Prosthetic: Futura on Printed Matter Press.

Assisting me in Mexico City was my dear old turkey of a friend Hector Martinez, the only Swedish man born of two Mexican parents.  Picking us up from the aeroport was that knockout tag team of Ana Rivera and Eva Posas, two of the most gorgeous girls in all of Latin America. Another stunning member of the Materia Abierta team was luscious Cinthya Garcia Leyva and that macho’s macho Edwardo Makoszay who was taking care of all my technical needs. The program will continue until December and is one of the most well crafted art specialty educational congresses I have ever been a part of. Because of the high demand of young international artists to work with me my workshop was divided into two parts.

The exercises Chingaso Fight Club and What’s Your Damage?---really stimulated the talented participants.  I gave an SRO artist talk with the creme de la of Mexican society in attendance including Diego Luna, Augusto Aguilera, and Sebastian Yatra.

I was worried that my recent operation would cause me problems in Mexico City, but other then a little bleeding I was fine. Thank goddess that it’s the rainy season in Mexico and the weather was quite cool. Prepping in Los Angeles was a different story altogether. It was quite hot and humid during the day with a nice cooling off in the evening. Was able to meet with the lovely main curators of the Hammer Museum who took me to a fab luncheon in their restaurant. The food was most excellent and so was the company. Was reading the Hammer Summer Guide and was delighted to find out that Curt Shepard is a new board member. Curt use to work with me at UCLA at the Placement and Career Planning Center. Mr. Shepard became a trophy wife marrying a wealthy conglomerist and is now part of the Nuevo art philanthrocracy.

While in El Lay I was pretty much on the downlow staying at Hector’s guest cottage in Plato Del Lago in Edendale’s Silverlake Hills. Hector did throw me a tiny little soiree with Ron Athey, Jamie Stewart, Lisa Teasley, Paula Cronan, Andrew Gould, and Norman Ghoulsen von Holtzendorf in attendance. Later I was able to spend some quality time with Craig Roose, Marlou DeLuna&Hal Marinus, Glen Meadmore, Kimberly Kim of North Korea and Emmy Award winning TV producer Meesh Mills who took me to the Slauson Super Mall in Funkytown. We also got down and dirty doing the pie puppy chow at Dupar’s.

Returning to Berlin was difficult because of the infernal heat waves which caused my feet to swell making walking difficult if not impossible. As Quentin Crisp would say, "Getting old isn’t for sissies".

DREH DICH NICHT UM!

Dreh dich nicht um!
Das blaue, blaue Meer

Yes that elderly woman known as Vaginal Davis had to have a major operation on her lady kibbles and bits. Luckily for the divina it was a laser surgery which is not as invasive as a traditional surgery. Still a surgery is a surgery and our womanly weeble woobles as she falls down is still suffering the effects of healing, and will be for quite some time.

The Vagimule Doll is forever indebted to Fearless Leader of CHEAP, Susanne Sachsse who took charge dealing with the doctors, nurses, and patient management bureaucracy that is very weighty in Germany. Ms. Davis’ operation took place at the Charite Hospital in Steiglitz. Her nurses were charming, including a diligent nurse Betty who was playfully mumbling to herself, and a beautiful young male blondine nurse with a muscular body and no nonsense rigid demeanor.

The wonderful La Sachsse organized that there would be someone bringing Ms. Davis breakfast, lunch and dinner as the hospital food is ungainly.

Thankx so much to Susi, Marcuse Siegelstein, Muslim Daniel Haji Hendrickson & his handsome husband Piero Bellomo, Koen Jozef Afons van Claerhout & Adham Hafez, kJohnny Blue and his beautiful wife Emilia, Wu Tsang and Boychild.

The latest Contemporary Vinegar Syndrome was pure delight with a huge crowd of intergenerational lovelies. Because of the threat of rain, the open air cinema plan had to be shelved. The silent green Kulturquartier Mars Bar garten was to be the area for the event but everything was moved into the actual Arsenal Archive which made things very sexy and intimate. Everyone was hooting and hollering over the goings on in the 1968 caper Skidoo directed by Otto Preminger on LSD. Carol Channing and Donyale Luna looked divine in Rudi Geinrich’s futuristic couture. Frankie Avalon and John Phillip Law were giving high hat sexbardos and poor Jackie Gleason only 51 at the time of filming looked over 70 along with veteranos Peter Lawford, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Mickey Rooney, George Raft and Groucho Marx as “God”.

Having a hell of a time watching the zany movie: Arsenal Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, Lorin Decarli, Antonio, Nora Molitor, Christian, Ilker Abbey, Nora Haak, Werner Kantor (von Nomandenkino) ,Gaia Novati (from pornfilm festival back in the day), Anselm, Nathalie Knoll, Markus Ruff, and Charlotte Peters of The Arsenal, Arootin Mirzkhani of Offenbach Universitaet, Leah and girlfriend of Geissen, Michaela Wünsch (bbooks), Daniel Hendrickson with husband Piero Bellomo and hot young doctor Mario, Gerrit Woltemath, Adham Hafez and his gorgeous Syrian crew and new hunky beau, plus British actor Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Jonathan Bailey of Broadchurch.

Vaginal Davis’ intervention with the Black Image Corporation Exhibition of Theaster Gates at Gropius Bau was a sensation. The doll read from her late mother Mary Magdelene’s copy of a 1956 issue of Jet Magazine. Ms. Davis almost fainted twice as she was pushing herself a bit too hard after just having had a major surgery. She looked resplendid in her Rick Owens gown with makeup and hair styling by the great Akira Knightly. The celebutants in attendance included curator Daisy DeRosiers, Theaster Gates who came all the way from Detroit expressly to see Ms. Davis perform, having missed his own opening back in April.

Gropius artistic director Stephanie Rosenthal glowed like summer magic, Clare Molloy, the brilliant Production Coordinator from Gropius working directly with Ms. Davis taking care of all her needs is the ultimate Stella by Starlight, Super fit British news presenter from the ABC network James Longman a fitting name to describe his genitaliac prowess came with Michael Scaturno of Deutche Welle and Joe Hutchenson, a former corporate attorney from New York who was working in finance in London and met a lovely German boy on the Berghain dance floor, married him, and recently moved to Berlin! He has started doing stand-up comedy under the pseudonym “Joe von Hutch” and is so funny that in just a year’s time, he has shared the stage with a talented writer from Saturday Night Live. Getting everyone excited that beautiful young art photographer and filmmaker Matt Lambert of Dazed and Confused Magazine who will be working soon on a new video with Mykki Blanco that features Tilda Swinton and Anohni.

Looking really mouth and crotchwatering at Gropius: Yusuf Etiman of Basso Kollektiv, Clarissa Mehring, Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, Tom Holert the art critic, Nanna Heidenreich, Michaela Wünsch, Mac Folkes of Germany’s Next Top Model, Michel PP who Ms. Davis first met when he was a law student at Forum Expanded Gossip Bar in 2006, Daniel Hendrickson, Piero Bellomo, and a plethora of very attractive cosmopolitan young people having a great time at the post performance Cremont reception in front of Ms. Davis’ Ladies on Paper exhibition at Gropius which closed Sunday July 21.

Here is the updated list (As of July 23rd courtesy of Ms. Molloy) of who was there: The stunning writer and Krass journal founder Sanja Grozdanic in a long, silken white dress. Strictly domina, choreographer and coach Caritia Abell. Dan Gunn from the eponymously titled London gallery. Sporting the best ecru jacket, the choreographer and dancer extraordinaire, Ligia Lewis. Daniel Neugebauer, the king of kommunikation and kultural edukation at the HKW. Everyone’s favourite film aficionado, Gerrit Woltemath of the Arsenal and Berlinale's Panorama Section. Chair of American Studies at the University of Tübingen, Dr. Kathy-Ann Tan. Performance lover, Teena Lange of Grüntaler 9.Two artists who were present were the choreographers Monica Duncan and Romuald Krężel.Gorgeous architect Andreas Lechthaler and his practically-named beau also Andreas.

Gropius Bau beauties Clara Meister in a great jumpsuit, associate curator, who worked so hard to bring The Black Image Corporation to Berlin, estimable chief curator Julienne Lorz in a powder blue number, queen of communications Annie-Claire Geisinger was a flurry of Dalmatian-style spots. Not to mention Kaiserin of exhibition production, Simone Schmaus, who took such good care of the Ladies on Paper hanging. Sarah Crowe and Torben Hanhart took quick breaks from preparing the exhibition Garden of Earthly Delights to adoringly listen to Ms. Davis. Babes in Arms: Natalie Schültze, Nora Bergbreiter, Anna Neubauer, Anne Biegler, Luis Kürschner and Ellen Clemens. The Immersion team’s bronzed dramaturg Adrian Waschmann graced the place with his High School Sweetheart charm, along with blonde bombshell project manager Anja Predeick and assistant the shiny-brunette Simay Yasar, not to forget master of monies, Marc Pohl, in a very fetching new jacket from Japan. Was so delightful to see scholar Karen Tongson in the publicum. Karen is one of the late great Jose Munoz's dearest colleagues. She is in Europe on tour with her fascinating new tome Why Karen Carpenter Matters!

Received this cute note from the amazing artist Damian Davis who was part of my award winning team with The Magic Flute, An Opera in Six Steps in NYC 2015:

Dear Friends,

I am happy to announce that I will be joining Purchase College this fall as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art+Design in their sculpture department for the 2019-20 academic year. It is with mixed emotions that I will be leaving my position in the Department of Art and Art Professions at NYU on July 16th.

I appreciate everyone’s love and support during my time at NYU, and I take with me the valuable experiences I have gained over the last thirteen years. I am grateful for my time there, and will carry the many lessons I have learned into my future professional and artistic career. This new position will allow me the time and space to focus on my studio practice, as well as a much desired opportunity to develop myself further as an academic and educator.

This marks the beginning of a new, exciting stage of my life. One that I hope many of you will continue to be a part of.

I also have a new solo show opening at the Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art and Storytelling next Thursday, July 18th. This is the culminating exhibition from my time there as the current artist in residence. I very much hope that you will join me that evening from 6:00pm to 8:00 to celebrate. For Demetrius

Another one of my beyond brilliantine ex students from Yale University is the incredible Aliza Shvarts. Ms. Shvarts was my divine Princess in The Magic Flute, An Opera in Six Steps 2015, and there is nothing in this mega world that stands outside of her angelic reach and goddess grasp.

She has her first international solo exhibition in Prague, Purported curated by Laurel Ptak that runs from July 16-September 15th at Center for Contemporary Art FUTURA

EFFET MIROIR

EFFET MIROIR

Überall Erhältlich

The Vagimule doll had a very bad bicycleta accident where she lost her equilibrium and vaunted straight into a light pole in Gleisdreieck Park. She fell off the bike, wounded and in shock bleeding at the knee and feeling like she had broken her shoulder and ribs. Some Good Samaritans called an ambulance and she was rushed off to the Evangelische Elizabet Hospital with a very good looking well built blondine EMT boy tending to her.

At the emergency room X-rays revealed she didn’t break any bones but was still bloodied, bruised and in considerable, pain so it doesn’t seem like our lady will be doing very much of anything for a while.

In a hobbled state a few weeks later The Doll met with Zach Schönheit for luncheon at Academie Der Kunst at Hansaplatz.

Zach was one of her beautiful young NYU students who collaborated with her and Fearless Leader of CHEAP Kolektiv Susanne Sachsse on The Magic Flute, An Opera in Six Steps back in 2015. Now Zach is in a masters program in Brussels and doing and looking very good.

A little later Uli Ziemons also took the Vagimule to lunch where she provided the handsome German heartthrob with much needed feminine companionship as his lady love was busy working on an art project in Athens, Greece. Before meeting with Uli Ms. Davis’ wonderful Arab masseur and healer Ameen brought her some special crèmes and ointments from Poland for ailing knee joints and swollen feet. Aging certainly isn’t for sissies.

The Love Camel aka: Andrea Novarin came through Berlin to take Ms. D. on holiday in Palermo, Sicily to help in her healing process. Before leaving on vacation the two were invited to dinner at the glorious new Stalin Strasse compound of Christoph Bovermann and his hot young lover J.P. Horstmann. Christoph was one of Ms. Davis’ brilliant students from Geissen Universitaet where she taught a seminar in 2014. Christoph is a skilled chef and hostess with the mostess on his Berkin bag sized balls.

In Palermo Love Camel and The Doll stayed at the gorgeous villa of Camel’s aristocratic cousin Nicoleta Polo Lanza Tomasi, The Duchess of Palma di Montechiaro. It was certainly splendid to inhabit a giant palazzo with humungous ceilings and marble floors. La diva Davis is very rough on her surroundings and wound up breaking the toilet seat with her giant Bertha butt in the cavernous bathroom. The famed Duchess is as generous as she is celebrated.

The La Ms. Davis was so happy she didn’t have to be “ON” for anyone in Italy, and simply enjoyed eating non stop at some fantastic boites like Pasticceria Cappelo on Via Nicolo Garzilli, Rosanero Ventisettiembre on Via XXSettembre, Mo Avast on Via Isidorolo Lumia, Primi Piatti and the working class restaurant Al Magnum where they were tended to by a beefy Sicilian ginger. The weather in Palermo was perfect at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It didn’t start to get hot until it was time to leave the island. Returning back to Berlin during an uncomfortable heat wave.

Ms. Davis and Love Camel did check out the environ of the Queer Sicilia Festival. They didn’t go to any movies but hung out at one of the impromptu bars during Aperitivo where they ran into feminist DJ sensation Bianca Kruk looking very lovesexy and rapper sex god Mykki Blanco who relayed to Ms. D. that he wrote to her via post when he was a mere child of 15 and she wrote back giving him encouragement that helped spur the international career he now enjoys. Mykki was on the jury of the film festival in Palermo.

Sad to relay the news of the recent passings of black artist extroidinaire Joe Overstreet, actor Patrick Macnee of the 60s TV series The Avengers and the actress Sylvia Miles. Ms. Davis has always said that a trip to New York wasn´t really anything without a celebrity sighting of Miss Sylvia Miles on the streets of downtown Manhattan. She will be missed.

So many people have written asking for another preview of Vaginal Davis´ upcoming novel Mary Magdelene that because she has been so remiss in posting her blog she will make it up to her subscribers with this little tidbit:

Blister was looking and feeling good. Just like Bernadette Cooper of the R&B group Klymaxx. Certainly diva’s need love too and Blister was going to get his full share at the Sunday afternoon private Long Beach Sexall Party he was anxious to attend.

Blister was 32 years old and would be one of the youngest of the attendees as the average age of the men was about 50 with some having Dad bods. Blister would get a lot of attention with his tight, lean frame and voluptuous asstrovar. The last month he was at the party everyone was fighting over him, and the most well endowed and fit of the daddies he allowed to pummel him in an Equity Sling. Talk about greedy, after each man would ejaculate into his anuska he would slyly murmer with a finger in his mouth, “Next”.

Giving each new conquest a full heaping of Bambi eyed innocence acting as if he had no idea how he wound up in this situation with his feet in stirrups as a line of 15 men waited patiently for their turn to mount him.

Leticia Corral, Dinah Bides, Elva Navarez and Lisa Montelegre were the unabashed queens of Berendo Jr. High School. I was completely surprised when Lisa was able to hold her own in a fight in which she was challenged by my downstairs neighbor Juanita “Nitabug” Aikins. Juanita’s mother Helen Aikins use to run insurance scams and one of her fake names was Yolanda Carter. I started calling my mother by that name and was shocked when she would play along. I usually always called my mother Mommy even though at age five she asked me to call her by her first name Mary. Somehow I could never get the hang of calling her by her Christian name, but Yolanda was something different. I liked the name Yolanda and so did my mother. My mother was so very formal always calling me Ms. Davis, but I was equally prissy in calling her Yolanda Carter, Yolanda Carter. My sisters never questioned it though Uncle Trash, my lesbian uncle thought it was disrespectful.

After Lisa and Juanita’s fight they became good friends securing each other’s respect. I certainly didn’t want to be on the bad side of two of the school’s toughest girl leaders, but I didn’t like the way they treated poor Lucy Swink. Besides her unfortunate surname Lucy was half Japanese and White and for some strange reason got a bad reputation. How does one get a bad reputation? In elementary school the girl was Gladys Gonzales. Gladys’ only crime was developing pendulous breasts in the 5th grade. I did see her holding hands once with Eric Knightbridge, who looked like Marlon Jackson of The Jackson Five and going back behind her apartment building on Harvard with Eric where I assume they were doing “the pussy”. But what was doing “the pussy”? Basically a boy would just rub up on a girl fully clothed and kiss on the mouth. Was that really enough to get one a reputation? And what about Lucy Swink? Juanita and Lisa ganged up on her telling her to keep her legs closed. Since I was the Rona Barret of Berendo Jr. High I told both girls that Lucy doesn´t need to keep her legs closed as long as Juanita was opening hers for Michael Ermitage and Lisa was doing things with Raymundo Romano on the steps of the 1st Baptist Church on Dewey Street. That shut them up and Lucy was forever grateful to me for coming to her rescue. In 1976 Lucy, Linda Wong who was my first dag crush and I snuck into the Starwood in West Hollywood to see Vicki Sue Robinson perform.

On the car radio was an NPR report of how one retired New York City police officer of the pre Stonewall era felt remorse for the bad treatment he perpetrated upon homosexuals during that era.

“I am truly sorry for what I did to all those faggots back then” said Sgt Mauricio Caputo of the 12th Precinct.

“I use to rough ‘em up and make a lot of them suck my d**k. Now I realize I was wrong, and I was takin’ advantage of the situation. I musta got sucked off at least five or six times a day back then, and hey man, that just wasn’t right and I apologize.”

Blister was feeling a bit peckish so he pulled into the drivethru of a Taco Bell and ordered two been burritos. He had finished them by the time he pulled up to the party house. It was 6pm and the event had been going on since 4.

As the new arrival all the men immediately coalesced around him. He walked in clad only in shredded Daisy Dukes and flip flops. Almost like being in a mosh pit he was lifted in the air and placed on a velveteen love seat where one man was doing the puppy chow on his scrotum and another on his wank, while two others were nursing at his taunt pectorals as if he could produce mothers milk. It was all getting a little bit too much overstimulation when an Alpha he had never seen at this party before swooped in on him. The dude was about 45 years old with a buzz cut looking like a tall Jason Statham. He lifted Blister up and took all 5’ 8’’ of him directly to the sling where he promptly started performing sloppy analingus on him making loud slurpy and slushy sounds which galvanized the attentions of everyone at the party. A crowd started to gather but kept a respectful distance not wanting to break the harmony of the moment. Blister loved being the focus of everyones attention and was trying to give downtrodden eyes and fake being somewhat humbled by the experience. Blister’s penis was fully erect way past his belly button. Blister was fully aware that he was the beauty prize. Suddenly it felt like there were a thousands mouths devouring him. Everyone had divided his body up into sections like Cousin Sebastian in Suddenly Last Summer. The man who started it all was using his velvet mouth to slowly give him sweet loving soul kisses. Three men were giving each of his feet a thorough tongue bath. For a dimunitive man Blister wore a size 13 shoe.

All this seemed to go on for hours but it was probably more like 25 minutes when the man who had staked his claim put his penis in Blister`s mouth and this move was pure enchantment. Usually Blister wasn’t so enamored of penises of such unheralded girth and length. But everything about this man felt right. Blister knew what would be the outcome, namely the perfect sex scene that everyone would be talking about for months or even years.

The man entered in him easily enough his sphincter ring fully relaxed from so many hungry mouths coveting him before. Blister was surprised at the speed of his thrusting hoping that he would go slow and make it last a long time, but if it was going to be wham Alabam style he was alright with it. Everyone else seemed to be in on it as well. The loud slapping sound of testicles bouncing off of rump was heightening the tension in the room. When the man removed his penis from the anal cavity to survey his accomplishments and gain the admiration of those gathered is when Blister heard a vooshing sound and a plop as Linda Blairish projectile spray began to emanate from him with the appropriate smells to match. The two perfect bean Burritos that he had eaten earlier that he was sure would not be digested till the next day made an impromptu appearance abruptly ending the gathering.

Was invited to a fab luncheon at Gropius Bau by their wonderful artistic direct Stefanie Rosenthal.  Got to meet their lovely guest curator Daisy Desrosiers a ravishingly beautiful young Black French Canadian woman.  The lunch was for the new exhibit Black Image Corporation by Theaster Gates.  I will be doing an intervention at the museum in early July so stay tuned for more information.  After the luncheon or brunch Clara Meister gave Daniel Hendrickson, the Jewish Muzlim and I a sneak preview of the exhibition which was opening that evening.  In another wing the amazing Isabel Lewis of the famed Lewis Clan was rehearsing for a presentation she would be doing at the opening.
Too bad I had to miss the opening proceedings as I was rehearsing with Ashley Hans Schierl and Tina Jacob Lena Knebl for their performance at KW.

AUSSER TAKT

Ausser Takt

Auf der Suche nach dem Rhythmus des Lebens.

Contemporary Vinegar Syndrom was explosive at b_books in Kreuzberg April 8th. The Vagimule doll did a little performance recitation listing famed independent Afro American bookstores followed by the docu on Martin Sostre. Daniel Hendrickson the Jewish Muslim read a wonderful text he wrote about kollektiv’s over the Argentinian short subject Ollas Populares, 1968. Because of popular demand below is Daniel’s performance script:

In October of 1968, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover wrote a memo to COINTELPRO, the not exactly legal counter-intelligence program set up in 1956. He wanted to warn his fellow anti-communists of a dangerous new menace: black independent booksellers.

Tonight we’re bringing one collective into another to show films made by yet others. So there’s a lot of collectivity buzzing in the air tonight here at b–books.

In fact though, it seems to me that collectivity has been buzzing a lot lately, in politics, and also in the arts. Especially in the arts, collectives seem to be popping up everywhere. Our theaters, galleries, and museums are full of them. Even the grand institution of the documenta has been given over to a collective this time. Only music and film seem to be out of the loop. Generally, when there’s a collective making music, we still just call it a band. And what can it even mean to talk about collectives making film? After all, virtually every film, with only rare exceptions, is always already a collective product, whether anyone admits it or not.

So the question we’re asking tonight is: what is a collective? How are they different from any other grouping? Are they really a way to resist bourgeois individualism, structurally insisting on our interconnectedness? Do they muddy the neoliberal waters? And what about these so-called individuals that make up these collectives? When describing their collective work, Deleuze and Guattari wrote: “The two of us wrote Anti-Oedipus together. Since each of us was several, there was already quite a crowd.” But maybe it’s not all as glamorous as it sounds. No one who’s ever been in a collective, who’s sat through hours of tedious discussion, who’s suffered through the interpersonal dynamics and mini power struggles, can indulge in an overly romantic view of what it means to ‘work together.’ On the other hand, perhaps these struggles, learning how to work together, how to live together, are exactly the point. Isn’t the difficulty of the collective the very proof that it’s working? That we’re getting somewhere? Or am I over-romanticizing again?

These are of course questions that can never be answered, since there are probably as many ways of doing a collective as there are collectives. Collectives range from established groups with fixed roles down to fleeting and temporary alliances, coming together only for a particular purpose, sometimes only for a single moment, even sometimes even without the express consent or even awareness of the members. Perhaps we’ve formed a kind of collective here tonight to watch these films.

Tonight we’re looking at some older films made by collectives, such as this one: Ollas populares, made in 1968 by the Grupo Cine Liberación in Argentina. Both of the other collective films we’re seeing tonight were made in the mid ‘70s in the US, and ostensibly, both focus on individuals. But both of these individuals are deeply embedded in larger groups, those of the bookstore, the political movement, the family, the school, the neighborhood, the circle of friends. In fact it’s hard to make any sense of either Martin Sostre or Winnie Wright without placing them in the context of the groups that surround them. Groups that live as much from the similarities that hold them together as they do from the differences that keep them alive. Maybe something like a collective?

The packed house included the well endowed film scholar Marcuse Siegelstein, young super lovesexy Columbian neophyte scholar Camilo del Valle Latanzio with gal pal Tiago Pohl, Egyptial filmmaker Mohammed Shawky Hassan and his juicy new love interest, CVS regular and former prima ballerina Trixie Schonherr aka: Beatrice Cordua, Piero Bellomo, a radiant Michaela Wünsch, along with the other b_books officialle rock steady crew of: Stephan Geene, Karolin Meunier, Ariane Mueller, Astrid Schmidt, Cornelia Durka, Daniel Delhaes, Katja Diefenbach, Monika Baer, Kim Feser, Marietta Kesting, Mirja Reuter, Mirjam Thomann, Nicolas Siepen, Simone Schardt, Teodora Tabachi, Tommie Merkle and Zuebeyde Alvers.

Also seen set designer Şenol Şentürk and his friend Çiğdem, who is so famous she doesn’t need a surname.

Cinema Sweetie Pie Little Stephan Ahrens (formerly of Zeughaus Kino), everyone’s favorite girl Monday Nanna “Ninotchka” Heidenreich who brought Ms. D a new knitted scarf from her wonderful mother Theresa Heidenreich, Nanna was there with film scholar de rigeur, Natalie Lettenewitsch, who works on underwater films, and wrote beautiful pieces on cinema's beaches (and contributed to this year's Berlinale Retrospective Program-feminist /women's cinema. Kanchi Wichmann, queer filmmaker & series director, Yusi Etiman of Basso Kollektiv who these days spends most of his time living half of the year in São Paulo Brazil running with his hunky boyfriend Luís a growing community space in Centro, the rundown but now upcoming old center. Yusi would love Ms. Davis to come to Brazil for a residency, and there is nothing she likes better then South American dostado.

Also at the event was Tyler Oyer of Los Angeles who I’ve been told by several Angelinos that the youngish Mr. Oyer does natty 22 cent homages to living idols Kembra of Voluptuous Horror and Ron Athey among other things. I love messy performance art that skiddles about like a jalopy car backfire.

Tyler sent me a video of his collaboration with Max Boss of Easter fame that had a splendiferous vox bop pop sound. Its always a delight to see the gorgeous beauty of Monilola of SAAVY Contemporary, personable young stylish American artist/filmmaker Amelia Seymour, Arsenal projectionist Anselm, Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus who just celebrated her birthday recently with a terrace bbq at her sumptuous Wrangler Kiez compound.

The Empresses bbq guests included: Monika Rinck (writer, poet), Florian Zeyfang (artist, filmmaker), Kerstin Schroedinger (artist) Angela Melitopoulos, Nanna Heidenreich, Daniel Hendrickson, Sandra Schäfer (artist, filmmaker), Marc Siegel, Piero Bellomo, Trixie Schonherr, Anne Quirynen (artist, filmmaker) and Shawky Hassan.

Also seen and heard as they squeezed into the b_books space for CVS: Nora Molitor(Literarische Colloquium Berlin LCB, Grenzgaenger), Anja Lückenkemper curator, and great - secret ceramics artist, Ilker Abay, Petra Schierke(Intendanz Berlinale) with Johanna her kollegin, Lorin DeCarli(Emergency), Giovanni Lazzeri a super hottie trolley dolly, taunt titten Canadian film ingénue Beau Mirchoff with German/Arab movie star Elyas M’Barek and Gerrit Woltemath our expert Contemporary Vinegar Syndrom production manager.

DIE WIDERHALLENDE GLOCKE

Die Widerhallende Glocke

Gesund Leben Klassiche Kurven–Kunde

DJ Snax aka Paul Bonomo who I have known since he was a teenage Robert Smith/Prince fanatic living in the DC area sending me mix tapes of his low fi recorded original music. After stints in San Francisco with the amazing Queercore band Fagbash with Davey Jones and New York City he was part of the third wave of Americans in Berlin in the late 1990s that included Peaches. Snax sent me this note about a special project that he has in the works. I will let him tell you about it in his own words:

DJ Snax here. It’s been a gazillion years since we’ve seen each other. I hope that can change when you attend this event I’m co-hosting over Easter with none other than Dave Jones (ex-Fagbash) from LA.

He now goes under the name Jonesy and he recently completed an experimental documentary about the fisting club in SF of the 70’s called The Catacombs. It mostly consists of an interview with Dr. Gayle Rubin who was one of the only women who went to the place. We hope this docu can be an alternative to all the male dominated fetish events going on that weekend; especially open to women, trans people, all queers….

Really hope you can make it. Dave and I would be thrilled!

Love of love,

Snax

PRESS RELEASE:

Please join me and my dear friend Jonesy for a very special screening and erotic event this Easter weekend, April 18th at the legendary Ficken 3000 Club.

Artists Jonesy, Kiernan Cobarrubia and the musician Snax are thrilled to present a screening of The Figa, an experimental documentary by Jonesy and Jaime C Knight. The film features Dr. Gayle Rubin being interviewed about the history of the San Francisco Catacombs sex club. The screening and event opens Berlin Easter Fetish Weekend on Thursday, April 18th, 2019 at Ficken 3000.

The Figa will be part of a program which includes Berlin filmmaker Liz Rosenfeld’s (Untitled) Dyketactics Revisited. The screening will also be accompanied by a sale of artist created objects relating to the history of the Catacombs. Featured artists include Theodor Johansson, Dean Sameshima, Kiernan Cobarrubia, and Beth Cita & Lex Vaughn and Jonesy & Jaime C Knight. There will be a door fee of 5 euros to help cover expenses for the filmmakers, DJ’s and artists presenting.

In keeping with the spirit of the screening of The Figa in Berlin, Snax and DJ and producer Dickey Doo will perform a set reminiscent of the Catacombs playlist. Dr. Rubin wrote about this playlist in her work around the Catacombs, and speaks extensively of the music in the film. The music will highlight the atmosphere in the legendary nightspot/ sex club Ficken 3000, providing the mood for queer party-goers of all genders, races and orientations to express themselves erotically, recalling the mood of Catacombs era San Francisco.

Please come…and join THE FIGA!

La Susanne Sachsse and Marcuse Siegelstein treated the Vagimule doll to a wonderful Italian birthday dinner at the East German boite Brot und Rosen across the street from Friedrickshain Park. We were joined by handsome and hunky Richard Gabriel and had a delightful evening gossiping and klatching into the willy wee hours.

Was back at Work Master HEAD in Geneva with my Framing the Freakazoid / Perverse Assemblages labzone. Had a great time with my wonderous students Louise, Valentina, Julie and Lorraine working on make-up looks for the eyes as mirror to the soul via Otto Preminger’s film version of the Francoise Sagan novel Bonjour Tristesse starring the immortal Jean Seberg. We also got some inspiration from the Lamount Johnson horror thriller You’ll Like My Mother starring Patty Duke, Richard Thomas, Rosemary Murphy and Sian Barbara Allen.

The weather warmed up quite a bit in the sun so we did some preliminary Art Stalking which will devolve into a much wider project for the students.

My big boss at Work Master HEAD Art University Charlotte Laubard invited me and Laurent Schultz the main administrator at Work Master to dinner at her new high rise apartment that is located somewhere in the suburbs of Geneva. Charlotte reminds me of a young Isabelle Hupert with a bit of Danielle Darrieux on the side. A lovely time was had by all with delicious food that also included Charlotte’s handsome, charming Italian art critic/curator husband Andrea Bellini and their adoreable children.

Before heading off to Geneva I had a splendid evening of drinks and snacks with Markus Ruff of Arsenal Experimental at Café Berio in Nollendorky Platz. Markus is the smartest most delightful young man in all of Berlin. He had me laughing and doing sommersaults with his right on insightful pronouncements into the human spirit.

Was so glad I was able to have lunch again with the famous novelist Travis Jeppeson at Milagro before he blasted off to teach in Shanghai at a University which is similar to my situation at Work Master HEAD in Switzerland.

Don´t forget the next Contemporary Vinegar Syndrom is Montag 08.04.19 20.00(8pm) The theme is
what is a Kollektiv? We will be screening the timely short subjects:

*Winnie Wright, Age 11 by Suzanne Davenport, Greg Grieco, Betsy Martins, Gordon Quinn, Teena Webb USA 1974 16mm/engl. OF/25 min and *Frame-up! The Imprisonment of Martin Sostre Steven Fischler, Joel Sucher, Howard Blatt USA 1974 16mm/engl. OF/ 30 min

UNTER VORBEHALT DER RÜCKZAHLUNG

UNTER VORBEHALT DER RÜCKZAHLUNG

Der Schaum der Tage

Met the handsomest man in Deutschland Ulrich Ziemons of Forum Expanded at Mexican boite Maria Bonita in East Berlin for good food and even better gossip. Of course we were talking about you. That’s why your ears are sizzling.

Hey all my literary admirers out there please send me a copy of Marlon James’ latest fantasy tome Black Leopard, Red Wolf. While you’re at it I’d also appreciate reading his award winning A Brief History of Seven Killings which won the Man Booker Prize.

The book that I am currently gobbling up and can’t seem to put down is by my juicy young pal Travis
Jeppesen who took me to lunch at Papaya for scrumptious Thai food. I haven’t seen Travis in a few years since his very successful solo exhibition at Exile Gallery in Berlin. I have known Travis since he was 16. In those days he would send me his homemade chapbooks of poetry and prose. Before moving to Berlin he lived for years in Prague. I´ve known Travis since the 1990s but our relationship was only via post. We didn’t meet in the fleshy flesh until I came to Berlin in 2005

Travis recently completed his PhD and was hired for a full time tenure track teaching position at a major Chinese University where he will commute back and forth from Berlin to Asia.

Travis gifted the doll a signed copy of his latest sensational release See You Again in Pyongyang-A Journey into Kim Jong Un’s North Korea. Travis has been getting incredible reviews for this book and believe you me its utterly amazing! The only book I can compare it to is Bruce Benderson`s The Romanian. Travis was mentored by Bruce Benderson. Its hard to believe that Travis is almost 40 years of age. He still looks like a weenager. We had a delightful time catching up on every little thing, including hot gossip. I wasn’t aware that big peniled NYC based musician and visual artist Gio Black Peter recently broke up with his long time sugar son Neal who worked for Calvin Klein. Travis told me a million other things but they are way too scandalous to repeat in mixed company. Run out and buy a copy of Travis’ book its just now being released in paperback.

I was so lucky to get a chance to see Jamie Stewart of XiuXiu perform at the Berghain Cantina. Jamie`s gorgeous and talented wife Angela, who works for high powered LA politico Mark Ridley Thomas writing policy, isn’t able to travel with XiuXiu anymore, so on this particular outing with the band he was accompanied by two members of The Swans. Jamie was utterly sublime on stage and the music sounded majestic. I´ve never seen anyone play a pair of scissors like they were marimbas and when it comes to choreography, well lets just say Jamie was channeling his inner Freddie Herko with his swivel hips and lips. Going crazy for all things Jamie and XiuXiu was lovely Pamela Schlewisnki the latest edition to the CHEAP kollektiv, and young gorgeous male ingénue Jake Cannavale the son of actor Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet. Beauty boy Jake is a big fanatic when it comes to all things Jamie Stewart and XiuXiu. Jake is also the great grandson of the late legend Miss Lena Horne, and grandson of film director Sidney Lumet(Dog Day Afternoon,Network).

The night before I was lucky enough to be taken out for a divine Italian feast by Jamie Stewart. Joining us was film historian Marcuse Siegelstein.

Earlier in the afternoon my old Tenderloin bandmate Felix Knoke who writes for Der Spiegel took me to luncheon at the Imren Grill in Neu Kölln. Felix is the proud papa of a two year old bouncing baby boy, so I don´t get much of a chance to see him now that he is a smoking hot dad. It was nice to catch up.

On Saturday March 9th Kollektiv CHEAP performed as part of the Palast Der Republik event at the Haus der Berliner Festpiele. We were commissioned to bring back our punk art band Ruth Fischer which we did incorporating a program of expanded cinema/installation/klatch that we called ungleich 1+1 Ein ausgeleiertes Konzert that featured gorgeous short subjects by the late Dusan Makawejew, Thomas Brasch and Susann Maria Hempel who appeared live on stage along with the wonderful and vivacious Teodora Tabacki. Via Skype was Jasmina Tumbas and actress Silvia Rieger who we gave a CHEAPy Underground Uber Alles Award to along with Vegard Vinge & Ida Müller.

On display as part of the installation was sexy muscle hunks Richard Gabriel and Hermann of Wedding kick boxing plus our living sculptures and a special hilarious performance by Mad Maxmillian Brauer.

Our happening also featured the juicy Pola Sieverding doing live akshunist video, Senol Senturk, Maurice De Martin, Pamela Schlewinski, Marcuse Siegelstein, kJohnny Blue, Martin “PowerhouseSemen” Siemann, Akira Knightly who expertly wove our Liz Taylor in Ash Wednesday plastic surgery look and of course fearless leader Susanne Sachsse whose new song Blame the Woman sez the New York Times is the mantra everyone will be chanting.

Some of the audience wasn’t featuring us but we did have a lot of Ruth Fischer diehards in the SRO crowd like Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, George Ezra, Deutsch Welle  and Bloomberg News journalista Michael Scaturro, Jonas Dassler, football thick for baseball dick actor Jannis Niewöhner, humpy Broadway star Jonno Davies, Ruth Schönegger, Instagram influencer Hasand Piker with his uncle Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks podcast, Katja Sander, art schtar Yael Bartana, Dorothea Wenner and Mickey,  Gina D'Orio of Cobra Killer, art historian Tom Holert of the Harum Farochi Institüt, Nebosja Tabacki,  Piero Bellomo with Shawky Hassan, Felix Knoke, Christian Fitzenwanker, Adham Hafez of HaRaKa Dance Development who brought with him the beautiful young Egyptian pop and film star Donia Massoud. Ms. Massoud is an intermedia performer who documents the disappearing songs from the Egyptian villages and mountains and turns them into popular concert sensations. She has been living in Paris for five years and looks like the reincarnation of Nefertiti.

Andre Previn the composer and conductor died recently at age 89. He was born here in Berlin. One of the scores he conducted that I absolutely adore was to the 1953 film version of the Broadway musical Kiss Me, Kate directed by George Sidney starring Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, Ann Miller, Bob Fosse, Keenan Wynn, James Whitmore, Bobby Van and Tommy Rall. Previn`s handling of Cole Porter music was dazzling. I also loved his ex-wife and former collaborator Dory Previn who he dumped for Mia Farrow.

DIE GROSSE TITELSTORY

DIE GROSSE TITELSTORY

Richtig vorsorgen mit eigenheim & co

Sending condolences to Mark Donen who lost his father the great golden era Hollywood director Stanley Donen. Mark is just a little bit younger then Ms. Davis, and functioned on the periphery of the punk scene back in the early 1980s.

Mark’s mother was an English aristocrat who before marrying Stanley Donen was hitched to an Earl which made her a Countess.

Stanley Donen first came to Hollywood through his connection with his older lover and mentor the dance legend Gene Kelly, Like a lot of men of his era Stanley had some sugar in his tank and though mostly straight he did bump pussy with Van Johnson, Tom Drake, Ray McDonald, Richard Quine, Cary Grant, Michael Kidd and Bob Fosse just to name a couple of hundreds of bedchamber partners. He also was married to several women including Jeanne Coyne who was wed to Gene Kelly after divorcing Donen. His producer son Joshua Donen is the child from Donen’s marriage to actress Marion Marshall. Donen also had a short fling with Elizabeth Taylor when she starred in his film Love is Better then Ever. At the time of his death Donen had been the companion of femme top and talented director in her own right Elaine May.

The Vaginal Davis doll’s fav Donen films: Royal Wedding, Give a Girl a Break, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Indiscreet, Funny Face, Charade, The Little Prince, Movie-Movie, Lucky Lady and Two for the Road.

The lovely Dr. Vaginal Davis experienced some mild winter weather in Geneva Switzerland teaching at Work Master HEAD. Some of the other well known guests teaching at the school are Canadian high tech artist Jon Rafman and Greek/Swiss choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis.

For those of you who wanted to know more about what Ms. Davis saw during the Berlinale this is for you:

So Pretty Directed by Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli. Set in New York City this lovely meditative film based on a West German novel of the 1980s really delights with a point of view and cast which fully employs our dancing daughters in terms of modern youth quaking. Dunn Rovinelli is an extroidinary young talent I am keeping my eye on.

Kimi no tori wa utaeru / And Your Bird Can Sing Directed by Sho Miyake. Humpy alpha male director Miyake casts his cute skateboarding dopelganger in this Jules et Jim lyrical stomp.

Variety directed by Bette Gordon
The restored feminist thriller features the involvement of a lot of New York royals like Kathy Acker, Cookie Meuhler, Luiz Guzman, CoCo Fusco, John Lurie, Christine Vashon, Nan Goldin, Will Patton, and Tom DiCillo. Geniustrata

Jessica Forever Directed by Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel. Jessica is my kind of gal. She is queen bee to a bevy of young muscle studs in a spotty dystopian bell jar. There is not much going on here, but the beauty of the boys in question, and I guess if its enough for Jessica its should be enough for us.

A Rosa Azul De Novalis Directed by Gustavo Vinagre and Rodrigo Carneiro
All films should begin and end in poetic closeup of asshole with karbunckle.

Maso et Miso vont en bateau/SCUM Manifesto Delphine et Carole, Insoumuses/ Sois belle et tais-toi
Its Delphine Seyrig all the time! Boy do we need her now. With all these films you can rejoice in her splendour, verve and activist spirit. With Carole Roussopoulos, Ioana Wieder, Nadja Ringart, Center Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir, Jane Fonda, Jill Clayburgh, Louise Fletcher, Shirley MacClaine, Ellen Burstyn, Patti D’Arbanville, Candy Clark, Cindy Williams, Jenny Aguter, Marie Schneider, Juliet Berto, Marie Dubois, Millie Perkins, Luce Guilbeault, Barbara Steele, Susan Tyrrell, Viva, Rita Renoir, and Anne Wiazemsky.

Forum Expanded Programs 3-12
Brazil’s hideous swing to the right courtesy of that tired Bolsonaro means we need more films like Tamar Guimarães The Rehearsal. Was delighted to see the lovely CoCo Fusco’s Vivir en junio conla lengua afuera/ To Live in June with Your Tongue Hanging Out, Muhammed Salah’s hilarious Un An-Aired Interview/Liqa’lm yadhae, Jeremy Leatinu’u’s From the Back of the Canoe to the Front of the Canoe, Susana de Sousa Dias’ Fordlandia Malaise, the Karrabing Film Collective’s The Mermaids, or Aiden in Wonderland and the extroidinary SHAYNE by Stephan Geene of bbooks kollektiv featuring Ricky Shane and his lookalike sons.  Extra kudos for the fetching sound design of Manuela Schanina.

Of course it wouldn’t be the Berlinale without Think Film Congress No. 7 which this year featured the most gorgeous of gorgeous in the divine form of Lynhan Balatbat of SAAVY Contemporary who is a radiant breath of fresh intoxicating airolene.  Seen in the audience at the silent green kupahalle: Daniel Immerwahr whose new tome How to Hide an Empire-A History of the Greater United States is now the most talked about book of the winter season, Jonas Dassler the 23 year boy toy star of the film The Golden Glove, actor Tom Sturridge and Scotish singer George Ezra.

DIGITAL DOMPTEUR

DIGITAL DOMPTEUR

Und Datenanalyst bei fraunhofer

If you are Dieter Kosslick a man from a good Germany family you have no choice but to become the director of an international film festival for 18 years. Next year the Berlinale will have a new leader from the Locarno Festival, and a new starting date Feb 20th which is my birthdate. Lets hope that every year the festival will get closer to returning to its summer roots.

The Vaginal Davis doll was in a flirtatious mood at the opening of Forum Expanded AntiKino The Siren’s Echo Chamber at the new silent green kultur quartier’s majestic Betonhalle. Ms. Davis didn’t know that the handsome man who was chatting her up was Benjamin Domenech the producer and co-founder of indie production company Rei Cine who recently partnered with Pedro and Agustin Almodovar’s El Deseo production house as well as Canana founded by Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. Mr. Domenech thought Ms. Davis was someone else but not before introducing her to his two young companions the easy on the eye French actors Francois Civil and Guillaume Gouix. The installation that the malenfucken hemen were giddy about was Ala Younis’ Drachmas. This year the exhibit will be open until March 9th. Multiple viewings highly encouraged.

Before Berlinale Ms. D along with the great scholar Julianne Rebentisch traveled beyond the valley of the iron curtain to Marzahn’s Orwo Haus to see the return of the band Girls, who haven’t performed since 1971. It was an SRO crowd that included some members of Gob Squad, prima ballerina Trixie Schonherr, British visual artist “Re” Phil Collins, Constantine Berger and a slew of younger degenerates thriving to the multi media musical hodgepodge that is the brilliant Girls cosmos. Girls are resplendid! They are the now sound blending of The Shaggs, Captain Beefheart, Wanda Jackson, Sparks and Cardi B. Lets hope they don’t wait another 45 plus years to come out of hiding.

Say it isn’t so. Ruth Fischer the art band of the CHEAP kollektiv are returning to the stage after a hiatus of over 10 years. CHEAP Palast is the name of the performance that will take place at the Berliner Festspiele March 9th at 10:30pm. Besides olde members of Ruth Fischer Susanne Sachsse, Marcuse Siegelstein, kJohnny Blue and Vaginal Davis this new incarnation will feature Maurice de Martin, Akira Knightly, Senor Senturk, Martin Siemens and Richard Gabriel and will take in the form of Expanded Concert Cinema Installation piece, so Mark your calenderias.

This year at the Berlinale Lady Ms. Davis made a concerted effort to be more social and made an appearance at several shindigs including The Norweigan,Polish Film Soirees, the official Premier party at Quasimodo of the Greek Cinema /Greek Film Center Celebration for Syllas Tzoumerkas’ The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea, A Tale of Three Sisters and When Tomatoes Met Wagner.

The Diva also beelined to the Saltzgeber Reception hosted by hunky Christian Weber of Sissy Magazine where she got down and funky with Wilhelm Hein, pretty Michelle Mangan with The Fringe Festivals PR unit and Outsider Liverpool Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, and the great Berlin lesben icon Mahide Lein and everyones fav Canadian Peaches.

This year Ms. D stuck to seeing Forum and Forum Expanded Films with the only exceptions being the Panorama documentary What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael by Rob Carver. What She Said is a pretty straight forward talking head doc with lots of great  footage of the famous New
Yorker Magazine film critic.

Stay tuned to this very blogina for the remainder of what Vaginal Davis saw during the ten days of the Berlinale Film Festival.

BECOMING MEINE GESCHICHTE

Becoming Meine Geschichte

Theorien der Gegenwartskunst zur Einführung

The end of 2018 right after the Christmas holiday and before Silvester the Vagimule doll was invited to a lovely dinner party at the Wrangel Kiez flat of Ulrich Ziemons of Forum Expanded and his gorgeous ginger haired lady love Anja. The food was exquisite and so was the company that included Azin Feizabadi the art filmmaker and his vivacious girlfriend Neda Saeedi, along with artist Nicolas Cilins and his beautiful young gaysian lover Dustin Duong who is a graduate student/male model from Australia.

She Who Must Be Obeyed received a sweet invite from Lucas Reiner the son of legendary comic film director and writer Carl Reiner who turns 97. Lucas is Reiner’s youngest son who use to be a punker back in the olde days in Los Ang but is now a visual artist. The eldest Reiner son is director/actor Rob Reiner who played Meathead in the TV series All in the Family in the 1970s and directed the hit film When Harry Met Sally.

Lucas Reiner has a new painting exhibition that just opened January 18 to February 23 at Galerie Nordenhake in Berlin. Check it out!

Ms. D was interviewed over the phone by ARTnews Magazine’s Maxim Duron for a panel discussion with Jonathan Weinberg co-curator of Art After Stonewall Exhibition, and the prolific art legends that are Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt and Michela Griffo. The klatch was progressing quite nicely but Ms. Davis had to drop out 30 minutes into it as she had to rehearse for the Original Sin concert installation for the Munchner Kammerspiele.

It was Lady Davis’ first time in Bavaria and she was quite impressed by the food of the city. Our tiny woman of mystery loves to eat.

The Kammerspeile cantina has the best chef in Christendom. Our divina was housed at the Relexa Hotel in a gargantuan suite that featured an amazing comp breakfast.

Ms. Davis didn’t see Mattias Lienthal the Kammerspeile’s attendant who use to run Hebbel am Ufer but got to hang out with Katrin Dodd the beauty of HAU who works with Mattias at Kammerspeile, Christoph Gurk who heads the music program and that philosopher king-queen the ravishing Juliane Rebentisch. Also reconnected with dear Evelyn Rüsseler the artist/filmmaker who gave Ms. D a copy of her latest special edition art book HybridTiere. Evie treated Ms. D to dinner and champagne and enjoyed a joyous reunion with the starina. With Evie was Jelena Kuljić, the hot Serbian jazz singer, from Berlin who is a member of the Kammerspeile ensemble. Looking very handsome was the youthful Ersan Mondtag (stage director and former Vegard Venga/Ida Muhler assistant) Goethe Institute VIP´s, plus Jasmina Tumbas (Yugoslavian scholar supreme) Albrecht Sachsse the brother of CHEAP´s Susanne Sachsse with his two kids and their friends, royal sighting in the form of Prinz Albert von Thurn und Taxis with Jake Hooker the grandson of Judy Garland with the sparkling famous hair colorist to the stars.  Jake`s mother is Judy`s daughter singer/actress Lorna Luft. Also spotted was Anne Schulz, luscious Pola Sieverding with her lovesexy class of super smart art students, Susanne Sachsse´s cousin whose mother was featured in some of the Original Sin super 8 footage from the GDR, Katharina Bischoff the OS production coordinators sister came for the third time and was moved to tears, and Miss Lillian (Richard Gabriel’s pretty gal pal).

Healthcare Updata:

Vaginal Davis had to wear a blood pressure machine from her cardiologist for 18 hours. The contraption made her look like I a suicide bomber. Thank goodness the weather is so cold now that she was all layered up or a policeman or concerned citizen would have surely reported her to the authorities.

Ms. V. Davis loves listening to NPR Berlin which recently got re-christened KCRW Berlin. The rebranding has brought the station a few more local Berlin items of interest, but the bad side is that after 9pm the station plays that horrible KCRW style music. Ms. D would rather hear more music in the lines of Hot Jazz Saturday Nite then Chris Douridas like faire. The music section goes from 9pm to 6am so it is easy to avoid. Recently the diva was listening to the radio and heard her former LA Weekly colleague Howard Bloom. Bloom now covers the education beat for the LA Times. Ms. Davis adores Bloom and his wry wit that encompasses a little sugar in his tank.

She also heard on the radio an interview with Tyler Brûlé. The Canuck Mr. Brûlé created Wallpaper Magazine and Monocle Media which encompasses retail and publishing. Tyler also heads a design house called Winkreative. Ms. Davis met Tyler back in the late 80s in LA during the heyday of her zine period. Tyler was a young beauty pie then who resembled Montgomery Cliff in his youthful prime with a little Cora Pearl on the side.  If my memory serves me correctly at that time Tyler had an older wealthy billionaire boyfriend.

Also heard on the radio a conversation about the boring Academy Award Oscar presentation.  The Ms. Davis prickly ears got hairy when the name of Morgan Neville was mentioned.  Morgan is the patrician super WASPY and beautiful documentary film director of the Mr. Rogers docu Will You Be My Neighbor that was snubbed at the Oscars this year.  Morgan already won an Oscar for his music doc Twenty Feet From Stardom.  Morgan is married to Nettie Acre of the alt/country folk group The Acres who use to perform regularly at my Club Sucker at the Garage and Bricktops at the Parlourclub as well as Plantinum Oasis.  Morgan at that time went by the name of Morgan Acre.  I only recently found out that he was a filmmaker.  He is extremely handsome and gives out big dick realness but in a humble soft spoken manner.

WIE MAN RICHTIG DELEGIERT

Wie Man Richtig Delegiert

und Ihre Mitarbeiter befördern

Hannukah came early this year and so was the Jewish Muzlim’s yearly soiree one of the highlights of Berlin’s winter society. Lots of singing, laughing and frivolity on hand with glamour girls Fearless Leader of CHEAP Kollektiv Susanne Sachsse, Her Royal Highness Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus of the Arsenal Institüt für Film und Videokunst, and everyone’s favourite sexy scholar Nanna Heidenreich. Of course one can’t have a Jewish celebration with only one Jewish Muzlim in attendance so Marcuse Siegelstein aka: Marc Siegel and Noam Gorbat were the resident delici Dreidel spinners. The food was resplendid and likewise the company that included kJohnny Blue and his Gina Lollabridgida doppelganger wife Amelia, Piero Bellomo, and Senol Senturk. Pass the Halla bread please!

The European book launch of Spector Books Film Culture 80: The Legend of Barbara Rubin at silent green Kultur Quartier was majestic. Included was an encore screening of Rubin’s subversive feministiche classic 16mm double penetration projection Christmas on Earth, with live radio score performed by La Susanne Sachsse, and a reading of Rubin’s letters by Ale Bachlechner of Cologne.

Ms. Vaginal Davis got to sit next to the charming Spector Books publisher Anne Konig during the fabu dinner before the event in the Mars boite. Afterwards at the Mars bar there was a sizzling reception with more food and alcoholica galore. Ms. D. was in quite a festive mood and got to meet lots of juicy young people including the sweet and adoreable Ms. Sarai Meyron who did copyediting and proofreading of the Rubin book. One of the books NYC based editors was Charity Coleman who use to be married to Audre Beardsley aka: Andrew Gould the manager of Bricktops at the Parlour Club in Hollywood. Miss Charity Hope Valentine as she was christened at the time was one of the regulars of the performance space and speakeasy known as a Bricktop Voluptuous Panic Girl.

Of course Ms. Lady Davis had to leave Berlin soon after the book launch to return to Geneva to teach at Work Master HEAD. She had some lovely studio visits or as they call them in the French part of Switzerland --Rendevous with Louise Bonpaix, who showed the diva a video document of her drag king performance as The Great Luigi, sex champion and former boyband lead singer now going solo.

No nonsence young artiste Constance Brosse gave Ms. Davis a preview of her new film Un Velo Sol which may be finished by summer 2019. The film promises to be a visual treasure of French feminist bicycle kitchen realness and the reclaiming of the streets by bicyclists ala America’s Critical Mass movement. One of my students who hails from Iran, I won´t post her real name but will give her the nomme de plume of Sativa Colaswara as she could be in grave danger next time she goes home for a visit. She has already been put in prison once because of her controversial art work.

Sativa’s latest project revolves around a lampshade moj. Any western film shown in Iran with a woman, she gets replaced with a lampshade if what she is wearing is deemed inappropriate or risqué. Sativa also introduced Ms. Davis to the Persian feminist poet Frough Farrokhzad and the white hijab movement that is taking hold in Iran.

Of course Ms. Davis always enjoys her conversations with the stylish and glam Juliet Lakhdan, and marvels at the creative mind inherant of Jacopo Belloni and his one man disco affair that he calls Little Tragedy Party. All these students do very beautiful work.

With the rest of her labzone Ms. Davis continued with the work she started last month utilizing the Robert Z. Leonard 1941 MGM film Ziegfeld Girl which is ripe for emulation and deconstruction.

Returning back to Berlin Ms. Davis didn’t have much time to get back in the Contemporary Vinegar Syndrome mode for the big spectacular collaboration with the Gropius Bau and that gorgeous talent that is Wu Tsang.

The audience who came to this edition of CVS was literally transported by the Late Night Fermentation Salon. Wu and Liz Rosenfeld outdid themselves with capable assist from Boychild and a cast of thousands that included intermedia saxophonist Bendik Giske and his cute partner plus the lovely Clare Molloy Gropius Bau curatorial fellow. The ambiance, lighting, flowers, food, drink and magic that permeated the Gropius Bau restaurant kept everyone in an utter flutter.

Earlier the screening of the two White Christmas movies, Harun Farochi’s bombastic 1968 anti Vietnam War short and the highly militaryized schmaltzy musical from 1954 directed by Michael Curtiz may have baffled the audience.  I wasn't so affective in explaining why I decided to screen the two films about war and the commercial laded danger capitalism consumerist holiday.  I wanted to point out that war and its kissing cousin arms sales are what prop up these global economies that turn most of the world into not only indentured servants but all in out slaves.  I am really not a fan of White Christmas star the hambone singer and actor Bing Crosby.  From the LA punk scene I knew Crosby's troubled gay grandson Dennis Crosby and granddaughter Denise Crosby who went to Hollywood High School with my friends Alicia Plake and Wagner Vieira and was one of the stars of the first Star Trek TV franchise The Next Generation playing the character Tasha Yar.

Ganymead comic actor Danny Kaye I find almost as irritating as Mickey Rooney with his constant mugging.  Donald O'Conner the original choice for this role in White Christmas would have been much better and he is actually a great dancer.  In 1953 he was paired with Vera-Ellen in the Ethel Merman starrer Call Me Madam which also featured an Irving Berlin score.  Also one of my main reasons for showing White Christmas is the illustrious Rosemary Clooney, a most excellent jazz stylist and the tiny waisted Vera-Ellen who I don't believe was anorexic which is the popular modern gossip about the dancer/actress who died relatively young in the early 1980s.
The cast of celebutants in attendance was mindboggling including Arsenal Institüt für Film und Video Kunst Empress Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, who gave the evening a very nice and informative introduction along with Stephanie Rosenthal the vivaciously spirited new Director of Gropius Bau.  Arsenal and Gropius Bau use to collaborate together frequently over 30 years ago and perhaps now they will continue in that vein.  So wonderous seeing in the audience Nanna Heidenreich, Uli Ziemons, Richard Gabriel with Miss Lillian, Bruce Budding and sizzling bootypie New Yorker Magazine scribe and The Voice contestant Ben Taub, the glorious Isabell Ertl the queen of the communications department at the Gropius Bau, humpy photographer and videomaker Matt Lambert and his big foot husband Jannis Birsner, Jane Fonda's grandson Malcolm Vadim, Bo Burnham the former You Tube sensation and director of the indie hit film 8th Grade, the sleek and sultry artist Paula Sieverding, visionary cineaste/genius Shu Lea Cheang who has been invited to the 2019 Venice Biennale to create a video installation, choreographer and dancer formerly with Sasha Waltz Company Laurie Young, The amazing Golden Brown Girls stars of the dynamic web series of the same name--Shannon Lewis, Indrani Ashe and Sara Umar, Transhuman musician Born in Flamez aka: James with her galpal Lisanne a neuroscientist whose research is beyond, Peter Cant, Theatre Director and performance maker, Kirsten Weiss Gallerist of Weiss Berlin, Elena Montini Project Manager at Gropius Bau, Sabine Holburg Gropius Bau original gangster who has been working at the museum since 1981!, Mac Folkes, fashionista, Olivia Hyunsin Kim the internationally beloved choreographer, photog Josephine from Halle and Iris Dankemeyer, philosopher at Burg Biebichenstein Art School in Halle, film editor Ruth Schönegge with legendary musician Maurice de Martin, Fine Freiberg aka: Elke Echo the musician and East German Dia projector specialist who works in the Kunst in Context Tech Lab at Udk who is about to launch a new music project, our favorite artist Angela Anderson on a break from her Austrian residency with DJane Olga Damnitz, Susanne Sachsse, Marcuse Siegelstein of CHEAP Kollektiv, Piero Bellomo with Roman macho Mario, Shiaz Legz Berlin Drag Artiste, performance schtars Josephine Brinkmann and Richard Hancock, Rodrigo Garcia Alves the Brazilian performance artist/choreographer, Pedra Costa the Brazilian performance artist and anthropologist, Simone Paetau the German/Columbian artist and filmmaker, Neda Sanai Iranian/Swedish artist of hybrid mediums, Aisha Butt, Sara Mathiasson the Berlin Braider, serene performance studies scholar Hypatia Vourloumis of Athens, and her handsome landscape photographer partner Yiannis Hadjiaslanis, Vinita Gatne, Dramaturg Joshua Wicke, fashion designer Nhu Dhuong, Vice Magazine writer Nina Byttebier, Music artist Pan Daijing, American Footballer Josh Johnson, fashion darling Andra Dumitrascu, skateboarder Andrew Cannon, Film artist Ivalo Frank, Korean/Danish music producer and DJ Tobias Lee, Dan DeNorch of the Berlin based Janus night club and record label, Marc Adelman visual artist living in San Francisco of the famed Faygeleh series with Hollywood male ingenue Lukas Hedges. The virile, young Mr. Adelman use to live in Berlin and regularly attended Rising Stars, Falling Stars, Torben Hanhart, kuratorische volantär extroidinär and curatorial fellow for the upcoming Garden exhibition in summer 2019.

Also seen looking stylishly engaging: Josephine Brinkmann, Christina Demetriou, Mads Dinesen, Eirini Fountedaki, Berin Golonu who use to be a curator at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Museum and Art Center who brought Ms. Davis to the Bay Area in 2008 for The Way That We Rhyme exhibition.  The sultry Ms. Golonu went back to school for her Phd working with the divine Douglas Criimp and now teaches at the University of Rochester. Berin came to Berlin on holiday with handsome artist beau Richard Barlow known for his chalk interventions at museums and galleries.

DIE SCHLÄGEREI

Die Schlägerei

Was Für Süperbe Jungens hier

Congragulations are in order to art photographer Annette Frick who won the Ellen-Auerbach Stipendium für internationale Fotografie in 2018. Annette`s photographic chronicling of the Berlin underground scene and gentrifications affects on the cityscape are being lauded and recognized. The award ceremony took place at the Akademie Der Künste. I predicted years ago that Annette would be receiving lots of awards and acknowledgements and my predictions have all come to fruition.

The cute but a little goofy LA wrapper known as Tyler the Creator contacted the Vagimule Davis doll recently and wants her to sing or wrap on his new recording.  The enchantress was a bit vague with him as to whether or not she would participate so he is coming to Berlin and is going to wine and dine her to get a positive answer from the diva.  If he has a big penis he also needs to fornicate with her.  We shall see what comes of it as Ms. D is in Geneva a lot teaching at the art school there.

HIER PASSIEREN SCHLIMME DINGE

Hier Passieren Schlimme Dinge

Nur Einer Weiß, Warum

At Work Master HEAD in Geneva the Vagimule doll did studio visits with her wonderous students. They all seem to be working in ways that are invigorating and quite novel in both form and content. I seem to be learning as much from them as what I get to impart.

During our labzone the spectre of Metro Goldwyn Mayer loomed large as they watched a section of Ziegfeld Girl 1941, directed by Norman Z. Leonard. I´ve been using this film for many years with teaching workshops and seminars and each time the young artist take to it differently. In working on the "You Stepped Out of Dream" exercise the costuming of Adrian was nicely deconstructed by the young artists. Having them flank down the grand staircases of the Art Department Compound was majestic as Tony Martin´s vocals blasted throughout the foyer engaging everyone in the building whether they wanted to be a part of the proceedings or not. Later the students joined me at the Biennale de Image en Mouvement Centre dàrt Contemporain Geneve where the Grütli Theatre presented Ligia Lewis´movement piece Water Will (in Melody)/Preview.

SRO audience for the premiere performance, was happy that the festival director had some extra tickets on hand that he dispursed to my students for free who are all on fixed incomes. Switzerland is a notoriously expensive money pit.

Water Will uses melodrama as a fitting departure point and the expressive and dazzling performers that include Ms. Lewis, Fearless Leader of CHEAP kollektiv Susanne Sachsse, Titilayo Adebayo and Dani Brown are spellbinding to behold. The soundscapes of Madrigal singing and other textural soundclips aligned with the gorgeous costuming of sowrong studio, light, sound and effect design of S. McKenna, Jassem Hindi, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and Catalina Fernandez are exemplarary. Can´t wait to see it again when it comes to Berlin in late November.

One of the nutty things I notice when in Berlin is the predilection of oompa pa entertainment surrounding horses. There are these unusual Equus pageants that give off a creepy vibe of beastiality. One advert I noticed on the way to the aeroport was called Cavaluna – A Passion For Horses, which features a photo of a young woman and horse looking like a bride and groom.

The enigmatic and serenely beautiful transgressive gallerist Lia Gangitano of Participant Inc. Gallery the only not-for-profit gallery space in the boutique city of New York needs your help. Participant Inc is the only place of its kind that stands completely behind outsider art. If Participant vanishes New Yorks´s culture “capita” will sink along with it.

So its once again an imperative that we all must give Participant $moula to help keep them afloat for another season. You would think with the all the super wealthy types in Manhattan someone would just kick in a few filthy millions to make sure that Participant can continue doing the work that no one else does. Of course the super rich aren´t very generous these days though giving some lucre is like pocket change to most of these gazillionaires. So please support Participant Inc. and Miss Lia´s latest fundraiser Breaking Waves, a benefit exhibition and Paddle 8 Auction. Or simply just go to http://paypal.me/PARTICIPANT INC. and give give give. Remember one day coming very soon your money will be worthless and will be used as wallpaper and you´ll be running for your life up steep hills as mobs of the poor and hungry come chasing after you with tin cans like Cousin Sebastian in the finale of Tennessee Williams Suddenly Last Summer.

ALPES MARITIMES

Alpes Maritimes

Manöver

“I am gutted!” as Ron Athey would say in hearing of the death of the incredible black feminist writer Ntozoke Shange at age 70. She was an author, poet and playwright. She was best known for the Obie award winning play for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf.

Ms. Shange also wrote the novels Sassafrass, Cypress & Indigo (1982) and Betsey Brown (1885)

Her sister Ifa Bayeza is also a well known writer.

I first saw a production of for colored girls in the 1970s and it literally was one of the major influences to my forming the performance group The Afro Sisters in 1978.

I always wished I had seen a production of Shange’s adaptation of Brecht’s Mother Courage.

There are more women in the world then men. Women have the power when they unite to devastate politically, socially and culturally. So with the American mid terms coming up its up to us to make some radical changes. It would be the first step in eradicating patriarchy in a series of tumultuous fell swoops. Take your passion and make it happen!!!!

The Vagimule doll has had some health tissues of late, and she is trying to get a handle on them with appointments with a stomach specialist, a cardiologist and other medical practitioners. The Vagiliac woman has also stopped eating bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. More updates as things progress. Wish her pluck.

My heavenly father figure the love god Ron Athey Jr. will be engaged with the world premiere of his new performance piece Acephalous Monster in New York City

· November 14-17 | 7pm

A Post-show talk on Friday, November 16th is with the great writer and performance art chronicler Cynthia Carr.

Best known for his boundary-pushing body mutilations, Ron Athey has been pursuing the transcendent and sublime for more than three decades. After the Death of God (famously proclaimed by the philosopher Nietzsche who anticipated the end of religion in Western society), Athey considers it one of the artist’s roles to invent new forms of ritual and celebration, to conjure the sacred as an antidote to the empty individualism of contemporary life. For his new work, Acephalous Monster, Athey turns to the Acéphale, the figure of the headless man, which inspired George Bataille’s secret society of the same name to combat nihilism and fascism before the Second World War in France. The headless or beheaded man is a powerful symbol of radical transformation, the driving force of all of Athey’s performances pushing towards the merging of humans and gods.

Don´t delay in getting tickets or they will be sold out. Athey´s performances are always SRO.

EINE EFFIZIENTE STADT

Eine Effiziente Stadt

Nimm mich mit!

Shrouded in secrecy the Vagimule Doll was invited to a press conference in the morning hours at the Zeughauskino on Unter der Linden.

There is nothing the doll loves more then a mystery, so she was well in her element. Upon entering the auditorium there was no clues as to what would be taking place. Then suddenly without warning or gumption four women entered the hall. One of the women seemed to be suffering from elephantiasis as her head seemed rather large and boulderish like the Rock of Gibralter. Were my eyes playing tricks on me? Was this beguiling woman missing a face?

Everything became apparent immediately as one of the women, Franciska Zolyom the art critic and curator announced with great flourish the Artistic Position for the German Pavilion 2019 of La Biennale di Venezia as being none other then Natascha Süder Happelmann.

Ms. Happelmann indeed does not possess a functioning mouth so her artist speaker Helene Duldung gave a well prepared and succinct statement for her.

The ravishing Ms. Duldung spoke in a manner that was very comforting like Ulrike Meinhoff. It didn’t seem like anyone in the room had ever heard of Natascha Süder Happelmann, or maybe it was just me. Gazing upon her visage she seems quite intriguing, and one might venture to say that this clearly celebrated entity will bring something to the famed art event that has never been fully realized before.

Ted Cruz has rank ears.
As the mid term elections approach In the US of A I want to urge all my fellow Americans and expats to vote Democratic like your life depends upon it and it just may. The Democratic Party needs to take back the Senate and the House. If this doesn’t occur things will be more dire in the world then they already are.

In September when I was back in Los Angeles visiting with relatives I was shocked to hear some of them talking political nonsence, and since I am the only one in my family gainfully employed and they depend on my largesse I made it quite clear that I would not be supporting anyone financially anymore who doesn´t make the correct decisions at the ballot box. As Judge Judy would say, “Dumb is Forever” but not with my $moula in the hands of said X-offender.

My cousin Condoleezza Rice was in town staying at the Adlon Hotel along with Tony Blair, Henry Kissinger and other international big wigs. She emailed asking me to tea, but I shined her.

Went with Jewish Muslim Daniel Hendrickson to the opening of the Arsenal’s latest film series Family Affairs – Cinematic Relationships Between Georgia and the Arsenal. Buy the book of the same title its fantastic.

The film being screened was Natwris che directed by Tengis Abuladze from 1977. The Arsenal has the biggest collection of Georgian films outside of Georgia and Moscow. The movie featured a beautiful young woman who is in love with a poor peasant boy with a really sexy flat stomach and freckles. Her mother has pimped her out to a rich boy who is a very hunky macho young man with rousing big dicque arrogance. The kid with freckles was cute, but not as desireable as the pretty girls betrothed. If she had just given it a little time I think the girl would have been quite satisfied with the more dazzling slightly older young man. But alas she is caught by her mother-in-law with the younger hottie and gets paraded backwards on a donkey through town as an adulterer and left in the mud to die.

Very strange that the towns misfits, an anarchist, a nationalist, a soothe sayer and a bawdy buxom good time Sally are the only ones who try to come to the poor disgraced girls rescue.

Jewish Muzlim Daniel has spent a lot of time in Georgia and Armenia and has become well versed in the cultures, food and fabulous wine industries. If Georgia has men in their country that look like the two main young leads in Natwris che sign me up for an indefinite stay.

The other evening I was transferring from the U7 ubahn line at Yorkstrasse when on the end of the platform toward the escalator was this black busker dude with sunglasses, cornrow beaded braids and a giant keyboard. This man is American and looks a little bit like a cross between Sly Stone, Brandy the R&B singer and star of the 90s TV sitcom Moeshe, and late in life Sun Ra. I hadn’t seen him at this station in ages. It was quite late for buskering as it was close to midnight. Every time I have seen this poor man he seems a bit more unhinged. I have witnessed him in the past having explosive tantrums as people have walked passed him without dropping some coins in his keyboard case.

Berlin use to be a city where the low cost of living made it much easier to get by on very little. Of course with gentrification rearing its fugly head those days are over, and you see more and more people looking as ragged as they do in Berlin’s sleek sister city of Los Angeles.

When I first moved here you hardly saw homeless people or anyone begging on the subway. Berlin has always had crusties but they were just loveable good natured alcoholics and drug addicts who seemed very mild mannered in their out -of -it -state. Nowadays the crusties are getting more aggressive and manic, and with the housing shortage it seems like things are becoming much more desperate.

This black American busker has the worse singing voice I have ever heard. He belts out his bad choice of pop songs like Ethel Merman or Kate Smith. He gives me a run for the money in the horrid singing arena. Even though I have performed in bands since I was quite young, that doesn´t mean I can sing, stay on pitch or carry a tune. I don´t know this man´s story of how he wound up in Berlin. A lot of Americans come to Germany thinking its an easier market to crack in having a mainstream career in the entertainment industry.

Back in the 1990s a very nice talent manager in Hamburg had seen me perform the piece Intimacy & Tomorrow / Stupidity, Today as part of the Six Sex Weeks Festival, and said that If I could put together a band she could get me booked all throughout Germany doing popular American pop songs. I can barely sing the songs I write for myself, so the prospect of being in a cheesy cover band wasn´t exactly appealing. She looked at me like I was crazy when I told her thank you, but I wasn’t interested.

Its very true that a lot of people become performance artists because within the genre no one expects polished singing or dancing skills. With performance art its about being spontaneous and improvisational. The mainstream entertainment industrial complex may try to co-op elements of performance art but capitalist production demands more stringently rehearsed commercial fare.
