. . .OF BUGCHASERS AND THE WATUSSI FAGHAGS
The elfin South Afrikan artist Athi-Patra Ruga lives in a fricasse vortex of his own design caught somewhere between Middle-sex and the Marvelous Land of Oz. An Oz derived from the famous L.Frank Baum series of books (circa 1900-1919) and not the MGM technicolor extravaganza.
The opening night of Whydeboyz . . . If You Say it Fast Enough was pure testicle. Delicious in its utter zaniness. With a special guest appearance via video of long on the tooth blue movie ingenue Marcel Schlutt as the floating signifier in flagrante da-grante alongside the artist. Both donn gorgeous celebrity masks, and Mr. Ruga is resplendid in a Girlhunt Ballet gown of his own design ala Cyd Charisse in Vicente Minnelli´s The Bandwagon. Except this time its bouncing bitch tits during a rambunctious plowing. Special note should also be made of Tilemachos "Alexander the Great" Alexiou as a spot on Maria Callas contributing to the general "Ben Affleck" of the proceedings.
Mr. Ruga is certainly one young artist we will be anxious to follow.
On the social note, seen shmoozing and boozing after the HAU 2 event: The wonderful Anna Muelter, vivacious curator Ms. Stefanie, statuesque Mijke Harmsen, lovely Katrine Dodd, baby diaper Joel Gibb of the Hidden Cameras, effervescent Skyyy Berkowiz, Kiki Montpernesse aka: Kristian Petersen who contributed to editing and filming some of the performance video footage. Also ran into, and was treated to drinks by sweet Scottish Arts Counsel honcho David Leddy and his wonderful beau who are in Berlin on holiday.
