The young, beautiful Swedish artiste Maria Norrman is the new Maya Deren with her experimental films that not only remind one of the great Deren´s work but also the Canadian early cinema feminist Nell Shipman.

Her latest project



concentrates on the obscure Swedish female impersonator John Lind and his wife and manager Stephanie Lind. This new short subject gem is very elegant in the way it takes its sweet time with exacting focus. Playing Lind is actor and ballet dancer Corrado di Lorenzo who reminded me of George de la Pena who played Nijinsky in the 1980 Herbert Ross directed bio pic. Not only does Ms. Norrman act and direct but she has designed some superlative costumes, and props. When you see the film you´ll have to judge for yourself whether Ms. Norrman´s costuming is more Theoni V. Aldredge or Walter Plunkett.

All hail Raoul "The Walking Cadaver" Squalsh. I knew he had burned a lot of the Bridges of Madison County, but until my A-Team gave me their latest progress report from their investigative work I wasn´t aware that he has burned almost every bridge in Christendom, and just how many people are more than ape shittake Jane Goodall to join forces with almost anyone who will bring him a comeuppance. I haven´t lived in Los Angeles in twenty years so I´m fortunate that its not hard to avoid seeing that death spiral face of his.

I had heard that Raoul “The Ghoul” Squalsh was suffering from early dementia 13, but I didn´t know it had progressed so far. He and his alcoholic sidekick--always an associate never a partner´, enabler are up to their usual Cockoo for Coco Pops/Trix are for Dix shenanigans. They are an amusing pair of bitteroids. Miss Lorena Bobbett& the Bromide has some major T with receipts to tell me from when she worked with Jimminy Fidgett at the LA Visitors Bureau. Should be interesting documentation to add to the case being built.  They smelt it, they delt it.

During the finnessage CHEAP Kollektiv performance The Word Falls, for the closing exhibition of Gropius Bau´s Fabelhaftes Produkt during Berlin Art Week a Latin American filmmaker and girlfriend of the diva Vaginal Davis told her that a slattern looking woman resembling La Llorona, but dressed in natty black clothing with long dreadlocks was snapping fotos and floating about the event like an apparition. Ms. Davis was so heavily concentrating in staying in character she didn´t even notice the large audience in attendance. Some people had to be turned away as the huge atrium space went beyond capacity.

Vaginal Davis dressed all in white robes was wearing a huge headress that was weighing her neck and shoulders down She was in excruciating pain during and after the performance ritual.

The Fearless Leader of CHEAP, La Susanne Sachsse masterfully directed the performance as well as performing on a sculptural swing, aided and abetted by film historian Marcuse Siegelstein, Daniel Hendrickson, Christian Fritzenwanker who supervised the makeup, costumes, aesthetic&conceptual design with assist by Janette Peters, Martin Siemann-lighting director, Boris Wilsdorf-sound, Pola Sieverding-Live Video, Richard Gabriel & Nele Ruckelshausen-akshunist wrestling, XiuXiu-additional music and Tyme Khleifi who performed and was the curatorial assistant.

The project was a collaboration with the celebrated Jewish conductor and musicologist Michael Barenboim and the Nasme´Ensemble featuring Bakr Khleifi on oud. The musicians in the ensemble are all radiantly gorgeous students and graduates of the Barenboim-Said Akademy from different regions of Palestine dedicated to playing both European chamber music and a repertoire from Palestine. CHEAP, The Word Falls was curated by Nora-Swantje Almes of Live Program and Outreach with Edessa Malke and Savannah Thümler.

The Word Falls, a fog of denial, horn speakers, music, poetry, ethics and the letter of the law. Who could ask for anything more?

So delighted to receive a copy of Bad Gays-A Homosexual History by the enigmatic writing team of Huw Lemmey (very patrician sounding moniker) and Ben Miller, Board President of the Schwules Museum in Berlin and frequent contributor to The New York Times/International Herald Tribune and other prescient periodicals.

Once you start reading this engaging tome, you won´t want to put it down until you are finished with it, then you will find yourself reading it again just in case you missed something. That is my personal criteria for an exceptional book. With chapters on Hadrian, Yukio Mishima and my fav Margaret Mead who the late scholar Jose Munoz called the Grand Duchess of inappropriate, self importance and grift.

One of this centuries most gifted fine artistes is the Canadian born, Los Angeles based Karen Lofgren. Of her many and varied talents she also creates specialty jewelry that is mind altering. She sent me a Silver Bobcat ring which I just adore. Her sculptural jewelry pieces remind me of the work of the late great jewelry designer Lee Brevard who crafted exquisite items especially for Michele Lamy and Elizabeth Taylor. Slurp Ranch Dressing-That crazed romantic crooner Ms. Glen Meadmore has a new EP available on CD or iTunes called Loose Hole Lucy and it´s a reworking of some of his older ouvre from his firsts albums of kuntry electronics like Do Me Baby, Girlene, Lovin´ in My Oven and No Money, No Honey, plus Loose Hole Lucy which is a brand new original song and Slurp Ramp as a mythopoetic union for longing lasts longer. Lady Meadmore is a very dear and talented lady and one of the Vaginal Davis Dolls oldest comrades in arms. Glen doesn´t get enough credit for his songwriting, guitar playing, arranging and wonderful singing style.

Glen Meadmore´s latest musical offering is a queer cowpunk gem from one of the true blue talents of the last two centuries.

Was passiert nach dem Fight Club? Just received two incredible books from the most dearest, smartest women working in the arts today--Legend´s legend Bibbe Hansen and consumate artiste Karen Lofgren aka Kara Hunger.

Bibbe I have known for most of my life in Los Angeles. We have collaborated on numerous projects together along with her young Chicano artist husband Sean Carrillo. Bibbe´s Factory Poems edited by Sean Carrillo and Dagon James features stunning photographs by Bobby Grossman, Dagon James, Billy Name and Kate Simon and is not only beautifully written but sumpteous to hold in ones hand. Published by the Waverly Press this brilliant tome is incandescent, and really shows the world the majesty that is Bibbe Hansen and her wonderous gifts of the spirit. I don´t want to say too much as you need to experience the joy of Bibbe´s writing for yourself.

With Karen Lofgren´s EMBRUJADA-Charms for the Living this is an artist book for artists everywhere and anyone else who can´t help but devour life. Ms. Lofgren is the contemporary extemporaneous sculptural procuress of the divine in all its ecological and biological unmitigated breathy realness. Annotated works, scribbles and conversations abound with the sacred and the profane. Karen Lofgren is a Los Angeles based Canadian artist who I have personally known since she was a student at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California and I have been working and collaborating with ever since.
