Sweet Padre Daniel Flores Estrella, who was my assistant for the Pacific Standard Time commission through West of Rome Public Art back in 2011 and 2012 is now an ordained Jesuit Priest living on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Westchester, California where he also teaches. Daniel is as delightful as he is intellectually stimulating and sent me a lovely birthday

Guillaume Dustan

care package that included some gorgeous Crane &Company stationary and correspondence cards along with the writings of James Baldwin and an intriguing tome Feeling in Theory-Emotion After the “Death of the Subject” by Rei Terada on Harvard University Press.

This book will not have any success, that is more than clear, I get off on it bad, Hare Krishna ! Yes, because I've always had a weakness for the midpoint between creation and destruction, I protect And now I want to be old and sick, even older and sicker, with my own Little Swiss, we'll have chickens, donkeys, turkeys, lambs, piglets that we'll sell, and little calves, and they'll all have a strange name like "Gruyère". And I'll cry all the time as I know how to do so well when I'm sick. »

These are the last lines of the book Dernier Roman (2004) by Guillaume Dustan. It’s also where the exhibition begins, a place that reconnects his films to his writings.

Between 2000 and 2004, the French writer Guillaume Dustan made 19 films with a lightweight DV camera. These films make up a part of his oeuvre that is little-known to date. The exhibition on the films in Fri Art Kunsthalle will shed new light on a key figure in French literature and queer culture at the turn of the millennium. Texts and archives accompany the films and help to situate them in a constellation of concrete and imaginary historical affinities with friends, artists, theorists, musicians and other allies of Dustan's artistic and political project.

The exhibition is organised together with the artspace Treize (Paris).
Curated by Julien Laugier, Pascaline Morincôme and Olga Rozenblum

With the generous support of the Fondation Jan Michalski.

Warning : the exhibition contains explicit images that may hurt sensibilities. It is not recommended for people under 18 years old.

I am super in love with the late actor Sterling Hayden who in his youth was one hot hunksis if there ever was one. I didn't know he was married to the British actress Madeleine Carroll for a few years in the 1940's. My mother loved him, as she came in close contact with him when she worked for the gay matinee idol Alan Ladd and his lesbian wife in the late 1940s.  Mr. Hayden was known for his irreverence as he was very highly critical of Hollywood system and only worked to pay for his sailing voyages.  One in particular that famously kept his son from being drafted during the Vietnam War by sailing the lad around the world so Selective Services couldn't find him.  Sterling Hayden is probably best known for The Asphalt Jungle with Marilyn Monroe in (1950) directed by John Huston, Johnny Guitar with Joan Crawford (1954), Dr. Strangelove (1964), The Godfather (1972) and King of the Gypsies (1979).

The Viking Demi God Sterling Hayden who was 6' 5'' in a time when most Hollywood actors like Alan Ladd were quite dimunitive.
